Hello!
👋🏾
I’m Jacques Laroche
I’m a multi-disciplinary IT professional, educator, and open-source advocate with nearly 30 years of hands-on experience. I’ve worn many hats over the years: systems administrator, network architect, technical project manager, mentor, and university lecturer. What ties it all together is a deep belief in curiosity-driven learning, logical problem-solving, and the power of a well-built infrastructure — whether it’s physical, digital, or human.
I grew up with a keyboard under my fingers and a desire to understand how things work. From the BBSes of the 90s to today’s containerized cloud environments, I’ve stayed grounded in fundamentals while embracing new tools and paradigms. I’m passionate about self-hosting, automation, and building systems that are not only functional but empowering — systems that give people more control over their technology and their data.
In addition to my technical work, I’ve helped shape future thinkers through my role as co-founder of the Center for Digital Curiosity, a lab exploring the intersection of technology, creativity, and critical thought. I’ve taught courses on digital literacy, AI, and big data, and I’m equally at home in a classroom, a data center, or a planning meeting.
Whether I’m troubleshooting a DNS issue, mentoring a junior developer, or running a Docker stack from a home NAS, I’m guided by the same principle: keep learning, keep sharing, keep building.
